Gaelic Football plays a prominent role in the school as we have boys and girls teams at both Senior and Junior years. Teams have had great success on the field over the years. Students train during WOW class.


Students have an opportunity to play soccer for the school and also, during WOW class for fun and for their wellbeing.


Sancta Maria College has a prominent rugby team who have had great wins at both Junior and Senior level over the years. We have had great successes over the years such as winning the Connacht League. Students train after school.


Students have an opportunity to participate in athletics including track and field athletics along with cross country. They have proudly represented their school, family and community at different levels.


Students have an opportunity to participate in Badminton. Students participate in different matches both in-school and inter-school. The students train after school.


Students participate in Basketball both in-school and inter-school competitions. Sancta Maria College has a state-of-the-art sports hall which is utilised by our students and available to use by the wider school community.

Girls in Sport

In Sancta Maria College, we encourage girls to participate and take a leadership role in different sporting activities. Initiatives include;

  • Variety of different sports for girls – LGFA, Soccer, Basketball, Badminton, Athletics
  • Girls Fitness WOW class
  • Different Guestspeakers
  • Girls in Sports Promotion – Community Event

The Girls in Sports Event brought together all the different community clubs and organisations to come together in conjunction with the school to promote sports amongst girls.
