Adult Education 2018/2019

The benefits of lifelong learning go beyond the traditional view of keeping the mind sharp or improving memory.  In today’s global work force, continual learning is an important component of improving job skills.  You may wish to learn a skill to enhance your possibilities in the job market, take professional training in a particular area, re-train in a new area for future employment or take a stepping stone to further education.

Our adult education programme offers courses for anyone interested in:

  • engaging in a new activity in an informal, social environment
  • availing of a second chance in education
  • updating their skills in order to return to the workforce

The following courses are on offer at the college:

  • Administration Level 5 or 6
  • Early Childhood Care and Education Level 5 and 6
  • Healthcare support and Nursing Studies Level 5 (plan to be offered Pending validation from QQI)

QQI (Quality and Qualifications Ireland) is a state agency established by the Qualifications and Quality Assurance (Education and Training) Act 2012 with a board appointed by the Minister for Education and Skills.

Our functions include those previously carried out by the Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC); the Higher Education and Training Awards Council (HETAC); the Irish Universities Quality Board (IUQB) and the National Qualifications Authority of Ireland (NQAI).

Office Administration (level 5 or 6)

This advanced one year programme has been developed to enable the learner to acquire the required knowledge, skill and competence to work independently or in a supervisory capacity in an administrative role in the private, public or voluntary sector and or to progress to higher education or training.
Learners who successfully complete the programme will develop their knowledge and understanding of the IT management process and acquire the skills necessary to function as productive users of computer systems.

Early Childhood Care and Education  

Evening courses are also offered under the Back to Education Initiative, level five and level six This course is designed primarily for adults who wish to work in the area of childcare.

The QQI is the statutory awarding body for further education and training in Ireland. QQI makes quality assured awards that are part of the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) from levels 1-6. Meeting learner needs is central to the work ofQQI.

Participants constantly pay tribute to the friendly, professional approach taken. The team facilitates learning to the very highest standards. The Art facilities were recently upgraded to include a brand new kiln for pottery classes. The school also boasts a state of the art computer suite with broadband access and modern I.T facilities. Access to laptops and i-pads is also encouraged. There is no age limit on any of the courses offered by the college.
